The challenge

An employee-owned science and engineering firm of around 550 people moving into Department of Defense work was running Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 in parallel and needed to consolidate onto Microsoft 365 without disrupting operations.

The pain points
Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 running in parallel across 550 people
Business impact: Paying for and operating two ecosystems at once, with files split roughly 60/40 across SharePoint and Google Drive.
A three-person IT team managing 111 SharePoint sites with no governance and ad-hoc external sharing
Business impact: Sprawl, inconsistent permissions, and public share links that external clients depended on, all at risk during any move.
A strategic shift into Department of Defense work that demanded a far stronger security posture
Business impact: The existing bootstrapped setup could not support the CMMC readiness the new contracts would require.
How we solved it
  • Ran a wave-based migration of all 550 mailboxes from Google Workspace to Exchange Online
  • Migrated 6.5 TB of Google Drive content into a governed SharePoint architecture, including the 100 most complex project folders
  • Hardened the Microsoft 365 tenant and identity layer with Conditional Access, MFA, and Privileged Identity Management
  • Preserved external client access and set the foundation for the separate CMMC track
The impact
550 mailboxes and 6.5 TB of files consolidated onto Microsoft 365
A single governed SharePoint environment replacing two parallel ecosystems
A hardened identity foundation ready for the DoD and CMMC roadmap
